Statement

Utilizing the human object as my primary sculptural vehicle, I explore the resilient nature of the human experience and the complex politics of the human body. My series IF Town is an investigation into the concept of performative empowerment as a means of taking control of one’s environment through the vessel of the body.  My representational works are composite characters, they may be derivative of one or more individuals, but they are not true portraits. Rather, they are invented characters representative of larger ideas explored through the IF Town series. and tangentially through the IF Town Monument series.  Ultimately, this work is intended to be playful yet simultaneously proposes a more inclusive way of looking at bodies and the people they represent. Through this work, I attempt to unpack and subvert the often-oppressive societal lens of perception that can be colored by stereotypes and destructive tropes.
